You must have discovered by now why Instagram is the most preferable and most effective social media platform for businesses/influencers. Instagram is constantly adding new features and has come a long way from its beginning. The latest features on Instagram are allowing businesses to sell products directly from their Instagram profile.
There are two types of accounts on Instagram: A personal account and a professional account. A professional account can be both Creator or Business accounts.
Let’s talk about all the three accounts one by one.
Personal profile will be created by default when you create an account on Instagram for the first time. Through a personal account, you can post pictures, videos, and stories. Unlike Business accounts, a personal profile can link to as many Facebook pages and profile as you like and allow a user to make the posts private. Instagram Personal accounts have a higher organic reach when compared to Business and Creator accounts.
Personal profiles are all about basics and it is just limited to creating and sharing posts. It doesn’t provide you data and detailed metrics that you could access as a Business or Creator account.
Instagram set up Business Profiles in 2016. Local businesses, brands can maximize their reach by creating an Instagram Business account.

Having a Business Profile on Instagram allows you to access several features like analytics tools/metrics and Instagram Insights.
Benefits/ Features of Business Account
The business profile contains a contact button at the top of the screen, to the left of the “Follow” which allows users to call, text, email or gets directions to your business. It gets easy for your customers to make purchases by contacting you directly.
Also gives you the option to hide your business category and contact information on your profile if you want to.
Instagram Rolled up Instagram ads in late 2015. This feature help businesses reach a larger and more targeted audience and to drive awareness visually. These Ads appear on the news feed of your target audience and it will be labeled as “Sponsored”.

Creator Profiles are created for influencers, public figures, content producers, and artists. This account is used to separate businesses from influencers.
Features of Creator Account
Instagram creator accounts offer a variety of features that distinguish it from a Business Account or Personal Account.
Account, Creator Account users/influencers have access to three types of messages folder.
- General Messages that influencers would like to receive to get back later on.
- Primary Messages that the influencer doesn’t wish to be notified of.
- Requests Messages from people that influencer does not follow.
While Business Account users can see their past 7 days data about who followed and unfollowed them, Personal Account users have access to a daily number of unfollowing and following and also have the option to activate or deactivate the contact information and by having a look at audience demographics, influencers can decide the best time to post.
With an Instagram creator account, users can label themselves beneath the display name so that the visitors know your area of specialization.
How to Switch from one profile to another?
To convert your Personal profile to a Business profile or vice versa, click on the three bars on the top right. Then tap on ‘settings’ and you’ll see “switch to professional account” option. After you click “switch to professional account” button, you’ll find two options, one is “Creator” and other is “Business”, just tap on “Business” or “Creator”. Follow the further process, you need to add details about your profile, your email, contact, etc. Tap done and you’re ready to go!
Note: You can switch back to your Personal Profile at any time, tap on ‘settings’ you’ll see “Switch to personal Account”.
